Classic VW Beetle owners hold mini gathering

A MINI gathering of eight classic Volkswagen (VW) Beetles took place at Giant Hypermarket Tasik Rimba yesterday, which was aimed at bringing together Brunei’s classic Beetle owners to share their experience on matters related with the car, such as maintenance and parts.
In an interview with one of the classic VW Beetle owners, Tengku Putra Muhammad Harris Fadzillah bin Tengku Pengiran, he said, “It is not easy to take care and maintain a classic car, and it took me about three years to restore all the car parts and accessories to its original state.
“It used to be difficult to find all the car parts and accessories, but nowadays, through the Internet, the search for parts has become easier. Now, we are able to source the parts needed from countries such as United States, Australia and Malaysia, with the closest being Miri. A majority of us send our car for repairs to workshops in Sipitang, Sabah, and of course, it is expensive,” he added.
He also told the Bulletin that such gathering enables classic VW Beetle owners to share ideas, as well as to show to the public the world of classic VW Beetles. He also notes that the oldest VW Beetle in the Sultanate is from 1968, and is rarely seen on the road.
